Star Trek: 10 Characters Who Must Return (2023)

8. Charles 'Trip' Tucker III

Trip Tucker Death
Paramount

He's not dead; it was all on the holodeck. I mean, none of the NX-01 crew had intimate chats with chef Riker in 'real life' either! That historical recreation was probably a cheap knock-off they got from Quark. The 2022 version of this list called Tucker's photonic demise a "crime".

In parts of beta canon, Trip's apparent death is explained as a means for him to go undercover for Section 31 into the Romulan Star Empire. Now that we know we're getting a 'Long Trek' all about the secretive organisation, the time is right for the short-changed chief engineer to be resurrected.

It is not known when the Section 31 'Long Trek' will be set, but if we assume that Georgiou travelled back to the point Discovery left, Trip would be pushing 140. That's not technically all that old in Star Trek, however, and who knows what life-prolonging lotions and potions Section 31 have got their hands on over the years.

There are various other ways Trip could be brought back: maybe mimetic symbiot Sim never really died, perhaps Daniels fancied another jolly on the Enterprise-J, or maybe just maybe they could find a 'Picard season three way' to bring back the entire crew of the NX-01 to give Star Trek: Enterprise the finale it deserves.
