Star Trek: 10 Secrets About The 25th Century Fleet You Need To Know

It might seem that fans have been gifted a tonne of information through the graphics, radio comms, and onscreen observations that take place during Picard's third season, though it's mind-blowing to think that only about a third of the ships in the whole of the Frontier Day fleet have been identified. Production assistant Jörg Hillebrand noted that there were a grand total of 339 ships in the fleet and 17 different classes ranging from 38 Sovereigns right down to just one Constitution III Class which was the Titan-A.

There were 36 Pathfinder Class in there as well as 36 Luna Class vessels. The Picard fleet also contains the largest number of Defiant Class vessels on-screen at 18 proving it's still a popular ship even with all those initial teething problems!

There were also several Nova Class ships (previously seen as Equinox in Voyager) meaning a total of four vessel types originated in the 90's era of Star Trek. The Nova Class was envisaged as the replacement for the Oberth Class first seen in The Search for Spock. Given the expected longevity of space frames as suggested by the TNG Technical Manual, this would be a logical move.

A Star Trek fan from birth, I love to dive into every aspect of the franchise in front and behind the screen. There's something here that's kept me interested for the best part of four decades! Now I'm getting back into writing and using Star Trek as my first line of literary attack. If I'm not here on WhatCulture then you're more than welcome to come and take a look at my blog, Some Kind of Star Trek at http://SKoST.co.uk or maybe follow me on Twitter as @TheWarpCore. Sometimes I force myself not to talk about Star Trek.
