While some of the ships in the fleet were Online specific additions, a few of the classes involved can trace their origins right back to the first season of Discovery.

The Gagarin Class made its debut in the Star Trek universe during The Battle at the Binary Stars just two episodes into Discovery's run. The USS Kerala, a Shepard class, took part in the battle, while the USS Gagarin would appear later in the season. It was then swept into the online universe with a 25th Century makeover and some clever story jiggery pokery.

The ship name used in Discovery's first season would become the class designation in the 25th Century.

The Gagarin Class would be present at the close of Picard's second season, and twenty four of them were part of the Frontier Day fleet. Like the Pathfinder Class this is also a class that was originally conceived as being multi-mission and modular allowing for swap-out sections to be replaced with specifics that will suit its purpose on any occasion. One unique feature that fans may not have spotted with the Gagarin Class is its "split" pylons where two elements come together to carry the warp engines. This is normally a single strut for each nacelle but if the Enterprise-F can have two necks then anything is possible.

A Star Trek fan from birth, I love to dive into every aspect of the franchise in front and behind the screen. There's something here that's kept me interested for the best part of four decades! Now I'm getting back into writing and using Star Trek as my first line of literary attack. If I'm not here on WhatCulture then you're more than welcome to come and take a look at my blog, Some Kind of Star Trek at http://SKoST.co.uk or maybe follow me on Twitter as @TheWarpCore. Sometimes I force myself not to talk about Star Trek.
