Computers and androids.

If there were two things that Captain Kirk ever knew how to deal with, it was those. "What is this concept...love?" has become something of an in-joke around sci-fi circuits but that guy had a surprising ability to disarm even the most murderous kill-bot or block of circuitry and flashing lights.

Back in the initial season of The Original Series, the classic What Are Little Girls Made Of? introduced Star Trek viewers to their first (of many) android nemeses.

Although we've yet to see Doctor Roger Korby woo Nurse Chapel in Strange New Worlds, the machine he discovered in the caves of Exo III is sitting in its own room on Daystrom. Probably quite a decent size room too since it needs to encompass the computer system and the spinny table.

Kirk's antics seem to take up a fair bit of space on the station with the captain himself being subjected to android duplication at the hands of Korby and his associates Ruk and Andrea. Fortunately, he implanted a phrase into the mind of the duplicate meaning that Spock could instantly recognise that all was not well with his captain apparent.

For note, there is no confirmation that Daystrom also houses a certain rock-like formation handled by Kirk as a weapon.

A Star Trek fan from birth, I love to dive into every aspect of the franchise in front and behind the screen. There's something here that's kept me interested for the best part of four decades! Now I'm getting back into writing and using Star Trek as my first line of literary attack. If I'm not here on WhatCulture then you're more than welcome to come and take a look at my blog, Some Kind of Star Trek at http://SKoST.co.uk or maybe follow me on Twitter as @TheWarpCore. Sometimes I force myself not to talk about Star Trek.
