Star Trek: 10 Top Secret Artefacts At Daystrom Station

5. Kataan Probe

Ever wondered what happened to the famous probe which transported Jean-Luc Picard's mind to an alternative life as Kamin on the planet Kataan?

Well, fear not because Daystrom have it all locked up if ever someone needs to relive an entire life in the space of 25 minutes. Hardly a substitute for a session on the holodeck, the probe was never mentioned again following its activation and subsequent retrieval in TNG's The Inner Light. Fans may have hypothesized that it would be returned to Starfleet for scientific evaluation but not that it would end up in the organisation's very own Area 51. Indeed, somewhere along the line, it must have been dropped off by the Enterprise with the positive hopes of its preservation.

The question that fans might raise is why Section 31 would lock up such a vital piece of galactic history. On the one hand, it has the ability to project planetary history into the mind of others but imagine as well that it will contain the last remnants of a once great civilization destroyed due to its own sun.

As a side point, there must be something in there that Section 31 is very interested in and it's not the Resikkan flute since Jean-Luc managed to keep hold of that artifact.

A Star Trek fan from birth, I love to dive into every aspect of the franchise in front and behind the screen. There's something here that's kept me interested for the best part of four decades! Now I'm getting back into writing and using Star Trek as my first line of literary attack. If I'm not here on WhatCulture then you're more than welcome to come and take a look at my blog, Some Kind of Star Trek at http://SKoST.co.uk or maybe follow me on Twitter as @TheWarpCore. Sometimes I force myself not to talk about Star Trek.
