Star Trek: 11-ish Times Voyager Lost A Shuttle

12. Type 8, The Drake — Non Sequitur

The Drake could arguably find itself in the upcoming entry for potentially lost Voyager shuttlecraft, as its destruction at the end of Non Sequitur really only falls into the 'very highly likely' category of 'things go boom.'

Whilst this shuttle, piloted by Harry Kim, was directly referred to as the Drake on screen, we only know it was a Type 8 from a brief glimpse at its Master Display Screen and, perhaps, from a nodding flyby as Harry wakes up in San Francisco. Somewhat contrary to Star Trek Voyager: A Vision of the Future once more, it is perhaps the lack of any clear exterior shots of the filming model, coupled with the shuttle's more than likely destruction in the episode that explains the name Drake. Calling it the Tereshkova would have put more of a definitive end to the name of the filming model they'd never previously introduced.

Indeed, the "hull breach in progress," to cite Tom Paris, didn't at all sound like one of those you could fix with some clever footwork and mashed potatoes. Assuming the shuttle didn't explode there and then, retrieving it would have likely been more trouble than it was worth. We seriously doubt the Drake survived the subspace distortions of the 'time stream,' but no explosions and no mention of explosions does leave some room to wonder.

Shame that fancy-pants new Runabout couldn't have somehow made it to Voyager, though!
