Star Trek: 11-ish Times Voyager Lost A Shuttle
11. Class 2/Type 9, Name Unknown — Unity
When out along the Nekrit Expanse in a Class 2 shuttle in Unity, Commander Chakotay and Ensign Kaplan detect a Federation signal coming from the surface of a nearby planet. When they land to investigate, they are attacked. The shuttle doesn't make it, and neither does poor Ensign Kaplan.
This was the first Class 2 shuttle to be lost in the series. Its destruction is not shown directly on screen, but instead indicated in dialogue by ex-Borg Riley when she tells Chakotay: "Your shuttle isn't there anymore. The people who attacked you have already pulled it apart." By the time Voyager arrives at the planet, Tuvok confirms that the shuttle is nowhere to be scanned.
Later in the episode, Chakotay and B'Elanna attempt to return to Voyager in yet another Class 2. Thankfully, they didn't forget to tractor that one back in just before the re-activated Borg cube exploded!
