Star Trek: Every Bridge Ranked Worst To Best
13. "Out Of The Chair..." - USS Enterprise (NCC-1701) (Alternate Timeline)
When we were first introduced to the Enterprise bridge for 2009's Star Trek, there were a lot of comparisons to the then-fresh Apple store decors. With the exception of the crimson floor and traditional centre rail, everything was so white... blindingly, len-flareingly, boring white.
The JJ Abrams-produced trilogy of movies are a little divisive among the fandom. There are as vocal detractors that believe the franchise ended with Nemesis just as there are those who believe "all Nu-Trek is Star Trek." But the design of the Federation flagship is still somewhat of a low point for the majority of all fans.
Bad Robot never intended to take the Enterprise bridge that appeared in the 1960s and update it for the modern audiences. Abrams wanted to give audiences something that looked and felt futuristic... it just didn't quite look like the Enterprise we were expecting. In fairness, as per the story, this isn't that ship. The NCC-1701 of this timeline has been influenced by the three decades that preceded it, leading to much more technology being crammed into the command centre of the Federation flagship. She didn't really get updated much, either. Over the course of the two and a bit films it appeared in, the Enterprise bridge's floor turned blue... and that was about it.
This progression shouldn't deter fans of the original bridge--after all, it fits with Gene Roddenberry's hope that "some bright young thing would come along and do [Star Trek] again, bigger and better".
