10 Actors Who Turned Down The Decade's Biggest TV Shows

7. Scott Foley - Ted Mosby (How I Met Your Mother)

Scott Foley is best known for his TV work on shows such as Felicity, Scrubs, The Unit, Grey's Anatomy, True Blood and most recently, Scandal. The guy clearly does not want for work at all, so perhaps that's why he didn't feel pressured to accept the part of schlub Ted Mosby on How I Met Your Mother, which eventually went to relatively unknown actor Josh Radnor when Foley did not respond, and it shot Radnor straight to overnight fame. Would It Have Worked? Probably. Foley is a handsome yet down-to-Earth actor who could probably have penetrated the same sort of neurotic sweetness that made Radnor's Mosby such a hit with audiences, though Radnor just about edges it because he's slightly more normal looking, and as a result is a tad more believable as the sort of everyman the show is trying to appeal to. Still, it certainly wouldn't have been a bad fit by any means.
