Denise Crosby appeared throughout the first season of Star Trek: The Next Generation as the Enterprise's security chief Tasha Yar, though Crosby grew frustrated with her place on the show as Yar was sidelined into the periphery throughout the season.

As such, she decided to quit TNG, resulting in Tasha Yar being killed off at the end of season one.

In a 2012 interview with the official Star Trek website, Crosby admitted she was "miserable" and "couldn't wait" to quit the show, though there was no animosity with Trek creator Gene Roddenberry, who understood her decision and wished her well.

Crosby did however later return for two episodes in a guest capacity - season three's episode "Yesterday's Enterprise" and the series finale "All Good Things..."

While some fans have questioned Crosby's decision to leave a show that became such an enduring hit, it's worth noting that TNG's first season was... pretty rough, and being the granddaughter of Bing Crosby, quitting presumably didn't pose too much of a financial risk to her.
