10 Actors Who Just Quit TV Shows

6. Dianne Wiest - Mayor Of Kingstown

Yellowstone Kevin Costner
Paramount

Two-time Oscar winner Dianne Wiest is one of those wonderful actors who classes-up any project she appears in, and so it was great to see her play a major role in Taylor Sheridan's crime thriller series Mayor of Kingstown as McLusky family matriarch Mariam.

Despite acclaim for Wiest's performance across the first two seasons, it was reported in late September that the actress wouldn't be returning for season three.

After months of rumours that Wiest was planning to exit the series, it was confirmed that she has indeed left, with Sheridan having already worked her departure, said to be "story-driven," into the upcoming season.

Given that Mariam was accidentally shot by her son Kyle (Taylor Handley) and hospitalised in the second season finale, there is at least some track already laid to set up her absence, with season three presumably revealing that Mariam died from the gunshot.

Sad as it'll be to see an actor of Wiest's talent take her leave, Mariam's death at least has the potential to catalyse some seriously dishy drama between the McLusky brothers.
