10 Actors Who Recently Nailed Great TV Performances

3. Connor Jessup - Locke & Key (Netflix)

What makes Netflix's Locke & Key rise above the many other family-based supernatural dramas available to audiences in these days of overwhelming streaming content is the eccentric premise (hidden about the vast ancestral Locke family home are odd keys which, fitted to the right lock, grant supernatural power to the holder) and the quality of the acting from the show's uber-talented ensemble cast.

Season two maintained the high quality from season one. From TV mainstays like Darby Stanchfield, Kevin Durand and Aaron Ashmore to relative newcomers like Hallea Jones, Griffin Gluck and Laysla De Oliveira, everyone brought their A-game: none more so than the precocious Locke kids themselves, Emilia Jones, Jackson Robert Scott and Connor Jessup.

Scott's innocent yet resourceful Bode remains one of Locke & Key's secret weapons, while Jones' tough, unpredictable Kinsey stepped to the fore to become the lead for season two, as her character's boyfriend was revealed to be the murderous demon from season one in a new form. Scott is of course familiar to genre audiences as the tragic Georgie from the recent movie adaptations of Stephen King's It, while Jones cropped up at every awards ceremony on the calendar as a central part of the huge hit movie CODA.

However, amongst all that vast talent, it's Connor Jessup that delivers the standout performance as their elder brother Tyler Locke, whose desperation to save his relationship with girlfriend Jackie from the weirdness that surrounds him leads to her death. Reckless and in denial, Tyler is a young man on the edge of a breakdown: Jessup's performance, first vulnerable, then panicked and finally traumatised, is revelatory.
