10 Actors Who Turned Down Iconic TV Roles For Stupid Reasons

8. Dana Delany - Carrie Bradshaw (Sex And The City)

Following the success of her run on the war drama series China Beach, Dana Delany was approached to take the role of Carrie Bradshaw - the emotional, insightful and interestingly flawed protagonist of the comedy-drama Sex and the City.

Having recently starred in the plain-awful movie Exit to Eden (1994), in which she portrayed a dominatrix called Mistress Lisa, Delany decided against taking on the role of Carrie because she didn't want to do another project "about sex."

In hindsight, this perhaps wasn't the best move, given that the show launched Sarah Jessica Parker to superstardom and proved to be about a lot more than the title suggested, tackling themes such as feminism, independence and gender dynamics with well-received storylines.

Delany would later go on to have major roles in shows such as Desperate Housewives, Body of Proof and Hand of God, but no role has quite reached the level of popularity she would have found with Sex and the City - a show she judged far too quickly.
