10 All-Time Great Netflix Original Series
8. Master Of None
It's rare to see a man of Indian descent getting work as an actor that doesn't involve playing a nerd/doctor/terrorist/cab driver. It's even rarer for one to be starring in his own Netflix original series that's written, produced, and populated by PoC, where he plays a working actor in New York City, but that's just the power of the Aziz Ansari charm, we guess.
Master of None is an immensely entertaining show, one that has the confidence and faith in its writing to let it be real.
Indeed, many scenes feel like normal (albeit unusually funny) people having normal conversations about life, dating, food, family, etc, and the use of non-professional actors in certain situations (most famously, Ansari's own parents) lends itself to the show's refreshingly honest vibe.
And while it certainly feels familiar as a sitcom, the fact that it's being told from a different perspective (ie. not being written by a upper middle class white man) makes it feel like its covering new ground.
