10 Amazing TV Shows You've Probably Never Heard Of

6. Party Down (2009-2010)

Danger 5
Starz

Party Down’s stellar cast - Adam Scott, Lizzy Caplan, Jane Lynch, Jennifer Coolidge and Megan Mullally, amongst others - aren’t the only reason to watch this critically acclaimed single camera comedy.

Featuring aspiring actors and writers in Hollywood, clawing a living at catering private functions and parties while waiting for their big break, the comedy was sharp and on point, the ‘sit’ in the sitcom changing every episode depending on whatever event it was that they were working.

Party Down never received the kind of adulation that its contemporaries Community and Parks & Recreation did, largely because it was broadcast on Starz, a cable network reaching less than thirty thousand people, instead of on NBC, a massive network associated with quality comedy for decades.

Party Down was smart when it needed to be, nonsensical when it needed to be; acutely witty and drier than stale toast in the sun. This is a show that should, by rights, be winning Emmys making film stars out of everyone and everything who ever shared studio space with it… but it’s a harsh truth that not all good dogs go to good homes.
