10 Anime Deaths You Didn't See Coming

Kamina is the driving force for many of the events that occur in Gurren Lagann. In fact, you would be forgiven for mistaking him as the protagonist. He is the typical shounen main character, idealistic, boisterous, able to overcome any challenge he faces, and concealing a certain intelligence with which to carry his dreams.

He is always the initiator, encouraging the growth of the other characters, leading the group in its missions, and coming up with ideas just whacky enough that they might work. However, the entire time he is but a deuteragonist; Kamina is merely the stepping stone, the development needed to propel Simon towards his destiny.

Creating an image of being able to flip any situation through sheer will, Kamina's death is extremely shocking. Such a character, such a force of nature, is so easily killed a third of the way through the show.

This is the way it was meant to be, the way Kamina intended it to; after witnessing Simon's courage and determination at such a young age, he vows to do everything he can to support him. As shocking as it is, the actions he takes, till his very last breath, are worthy of the Mighty Kamina.
