6. Defying Gravity
First airing in 2009, Defying Gravity was a blink and you'll miss it show. While originally scheduled for a thirteen episode run, only eight made it onto the air before it was pulled. At the same time, there seems to have been almost no effort on the part of ABC to promote the show. At the end of the day, it felt like the network had given up on it before the show even began. But hidden in those eight episodes (and the remaining five that eventually surfaced on television and DVD), was the potential for an epic series exploring the first manned exploration of the solar system. A lot of effort clearly went in to the special effects, including the surprisingly realistic depictions of gravity-free weightlessness. The sets had a distinct 2001: A Space Odyssey feel, which was enough to at least catch fans' attention long enough that they were beginning to feel invested in the characters by the time the show was unceremoniously ended.
