Remember when you didn’t know how it all would end?

When each week brought another bombshell revelation like the existence of the Others, the mysterious hatch and its enigmatic inhabitant, or the inexplicable statue foot?

Remember when the sudden demises of everyone from Artz to Charlie to Mr Eko still packed a punch?

Yes, any mention of JJ Abrams’ 2004 series may know prompt the same mixed feelings that references to his work in both the Star Wars and Star Trek franchises also do, but there was a time when this twisty sci-fi mystery held the world’s attention, and despite the dud of a conclusion, some twists still pack such a surprise that it’s hard to argue the show as a whole didn’t deserve some praise.

Just look back to the moment when a depressed, despondent Jack, in one of our nominal hero’s many flashbacks, arrived at the airport to meet a friend—revealed to be none other than his fellow island inhabitant Kate, thus proving that these were never flashbacks but rather flash forwards.

An audacious turn, the twist proved just how much daring the show had, and made it all the more unfortunate when the eventual convoluted conclusion proved as predictable as it did.
