10 Awkward TV Couples Who Were Hilariously Mismatched

10. Howard And Bernadette (The Big Bang Theory)

Big Bang Theory Howard And Bernadette One of the most disconcerting qualities about the opening seasons of The Big Bang Theory was Howard's continued sexual harassment of every female character on the show. Maybe when the writers realized that having a central character who frequently seemed to be on the verge of making a date rape joke was a bad idea, they decided to pair him up with a cute and non-threatening female character. Bernadette was a welcome addition to the show which needed more female characters, but instead of adding a female character that was Penny's friend (who could possibly be a romantic interest for the rest of the male cast) they decided to pair her up with Wolowitz. But, I mean, look at his room. It's a paean to the specific combination of immaturity, sexism, and bad taste that Howard personifies. Sure, having a wife has opened up his "emotional" side and he seemingly has a beneficial relationship with Bernadette, but that doesn't change the fact that behind those skin-tight pants lies a small man who routinely mistreated women. It's obvious that the show wants to reel in the demographic who fantasizes about having a significant other who is significantly more attractive and more socially adept than them, but it's just not a believable relationship. She's an intelligent and nice scientist; he is an admittedly smart engineer but he has a quasi-Oedipal relationship with his mother and the emotional maturity of a newborn. She's too good for you, Howard.
