10 Bad TV Shows With Great Opening Title Sequences

1. The Borgias

The tale of Rodrigo Borgia is a fascinating one. It has all the sex, violence and intrigue of the Godfather, only it's set in the Vatican! So when Showtime first announced this series starring Jeremy Irons, expectations couldn't have been higher. Jeremy Irons as the Mafia Pope? Why did it take so long for this show to happen?

However, the resulting series was less than thrilling. While it opened strong with murders, political maneuvering, and the occasional TV sex scene, the story slowed to a crawl in between the big set pieces. And as anyone who saw Assassin's Creed could tell you, no amount of Jeremy Irons can save a flawed project. But the opening credits did an incredible job establishing the show we all wanted the Borgias to be, but wasn't.

A montage of grisly Italian artwork and clips from the series over deep vocal music, this opening title sequence raised our hopes every time the show began. It even won an Emmy for outstanding title music. While the show that followed never captured such a perfect synthesis of religious imagery and dark themes, these credits are still a marvel to behold.
