5. A Touchdown For The Team!
Pokémon the Series: Sun & Moon - Ultra Adventures – Episode 21
Plot:
Ash is drawn to a marketplace by its exotic scents, where an old woman gives his Pokémon Sitrus Berries. As they eat them, the primate Pokémon Passimian accidentally abducts Ash's Rowlet mistaking it for fruit (maybe mistaking it for a pasty coconut?). Ash and his friends head into the jungle to save their captured companion. However, in exchanging fruit for his friend, Ash messes with primate politics and has to fix his faux-pas by disguising himself as a Passimian
Call For Cancellation:
Treading a similar line as the Jynx controversies, this episode was pulled for potential racist content. In transforming Ash into a Passimian (a Pokémon based on a combination of a Sifaka, a football player, and a baboon), Lillie paints the majority of Ash's face brown. Though, it is doubtful that the animators deliberately evoked black face here, the final product is essentially the same. Though accidental, the portrayal of one of the most offensive acts of racism towards those of African descent necessitated this outing for the cut.
