10 Behind The Scenes Dramas That Ruined Great TV Shows
6. Ally McBeal - Star Goes Off The Rails
Robert Downey Jr is an incredible actor, and is now known to be a hardworking, kind and passionate man. But unfortunately for a guy who was born into fame, his whole life has always been under a microscope. RDJ speaks opening about growing up around drugs, his normal was getting high with his father and drinking till he dropped. He tried his best to get away from that life, moving from New York to Los Angeles to pursue a film career but his addiction followed him to Hollywood. After gaining fame from his roles in films like Weird Science and the Charlie Chaplin bio-pic aptly named Chaplin, he started losing his grip more and more on sobriety.
Back when everything went down he was vilified in the media and outcasted from Hollywood. That leads to this entry on the list: RDJ was hired onto the legal comedy show Ally McBeal in the height of his struggles because the show was dramatically falling in ratings. The casting worked and Ally McBeal once again became a hit with audiences. But after being arrested for what felt like the 100th time, the show let him go.
Robert Downey Jr calls this time his rock bottom and is completely understanding of his termination from the show. But without the pull of an A-list actor, Ally McBeal's ratings plummeted once again and the show was swiftly cancelled at the end of season 5. It was a bittersweet ending for not just the cast and crew, but the fans too. As the character of Larry Paul was supposed to marry our protagonist. Instead we're left with him heartbreakingly ending their relationship instead of proposing.
