4. Elon Musk’s First Appearance Is The Most Popular Episode
JRE #1169 with Tesla boss Elon Musk has reached more people than any other episode, by any metric. The podcast’s 38m+ YouTube views dwarf the competition, as do the audio download figures.
The infamous episode led to an admittedly short-lived plunge in Tesla’s stock price, as well as the resignation of two Tesla executives, following the open use of cannabis on the show by Musk. It was also rumoured that this may affect Musk’s security clearance through Space-X for the Air Force as technically this is prohibited for people with this kind of governmental access, being still illegal at a federal level. Ultimately no action was taken.
Musk would return to the podcast in 2020, with less controversial results, although this episode itself ranks third in the list of Rogan’s most watched podcasts. Given the CEO’s reputation as a visionary, we may look back at these discussions in years to come and wonder why the most publicly discussed aspects were weed and the funny name Musk gave to his daughter.
