10 Best Anime Romances Of All Time
7. Vegeta And Bulma (Dragonball Super)
The life of a shonen mangaka, with rare exceptions, is often the life of a bachelor due to its hectic, bordering on torturous nature.
For example, Masashi Kishimoto got married shortly before Naruto first hit shelves. He got to go on his honeymoon after it ended. Which was 20 years later. (F*%k you too, Shonen Jump.)
As a result of this, shonen manga is not the best at portraying married life. Which is probably why it took until Dragonball Super before Vegeta and Bulma actually felt like a proper married couple.
Dragonball Super has a lot - and by Master Roshi's disturbingly extensive porn collection do I mean a LOT - of problems, but the show nails the character interactions and relationships in a way that Toriyama just seemed wholly uninterested in during his original run.
And the best example of this is Vegeta and Bulma's relationship. Multiple episodes focus heavily on the ins and outs of their dynamic and how they're a far healthier marriage than one might assume at first glance.
Vegeta is still a prideful ass, but age and MULTIPLE humbling experiences have seriously tempered it to a much more manageable state. And Bulma is smart and headstrong enough to keep him on his toes with firmly established boundaries, while being compassionate and understanding enough for them to both be on the same page.
Their relationship isn't the perpetual honeymoon phase that Gohan and Videl have, or the "Family Guy if Peter Griffin could blow up the planet by sneezing on it" dynamic that Goku and Chi-Chi got going on, as it strikes that perfect balance of being realistically healthy without being unbelievable.
