The original and simplistic story about little puny humans versus monstrous titans is no longer a straightforward tale of us vs them. It has evolved into a dramatic, complex, and often heartbreaking epic.

In this show, you are introduced to a land that is protected by three massive walls from terrifying beasts known as titans. These monsters have a propensity for eating humans, and in a tragic series of events, the wall gets breached, and they proceed to start snacking. From there you follow Eren, Mikasa and Armin as they enlist to fight back against the giant killers.

The series has so much going for it, such as fantastic characters, pulse-pounding sequences, and brilliant animation. Although there can be some problems with pacing, the electrifying action scenes and dramatic reveals always make it a compelling watch.

Attack on Titan's spontaneous burst of popularity in 2013 made it an essential piece of popular culture - even outside of anime circles - and the latest season has been a massive success thus far. It looks set to end on a high and will go down as one of the best shows of all time, anime or not.
