10 Best Brooklyn Nine-Nine Cold Opens

8. Holt Trolls Jake

The relationship between Captain Holt and Jake Peralta has been at the core of Brooklyn Nine-Nine since the first episode. Holt joined the Nine-Nine as a borderline robotic captain who took everything too seriously. Even though he was a great detective, Peralta took nothing seriously and was constantly getting stuck in his own nonsense.

Over time, Holt elevated Peralta closer to his level while Jake simultaneously dragged Holt down to his. It all worked out kind of well as they became closer, with Holt slowly becoming a father figure to Jake. This fed right into Jake's deep daddy issues created by his real father's many betrayals over the years.

But before that bond formed, the two really enjoyed putting the screws to each other. When Holt came into the office with an injury, he kept what happened to himself. The truth was he sustained a hula hooping injury, a truth he only disclosed to Jake as he couldn't prove the story to anyone else.
