10 Best Cartoon Theme Songs

9. X-Men: The Animated Series

This animated adaptation of the X-Men comics was a passion project for Margaret Loesch. When she became head of the Fox Kids Network in 1991 she was very keen to get this project on screens. Thankfully not only did we get to see the mutants in their full glory but also got one of the best opening title sequences in Fox Kids history.

The music was composed by Ron Wasserman and is a powerful theme that gets you pumped up for the show - as all good theme songs should. The progressive build of the simple tune throughout the song makes you feel like you are heading towards something very grand, and the eventual crescendo matches this.

Additionally, the more synthetic sounds of the piece give off this sci-fi vibe that perfectly matches the aesthetic and genre of the title. It fit the source material perfectly and quickly got kids everywhere ready for the coming 20 minutes of Marvel mania.

Wasserman, however, did come under some legal trouble as Zoltan Krisko claimed that the theme was copied from his TV show Linda's own theme song. Listening to both does show some similarities, but we will never honestly know if there is any direct connection between the two pieces.
