10 Best HBO Characters Ever

7. Selina Meyer - Veep

Tony Soprano The Sopranos
HBO

You don't hold the record for Emmy and Golden Globes wins in your category if you aren't deserving. One or even two wins might be pure luck, but it's hard to argue with the record-breaking numbers associated with Veep's protagonist, Selina Meyer.

Louis-Dreyfus drags Meyer to the forefront of the political arena depicted in Veep, following a failed presidential run - with a few hilariously disastrous (and foul mouthed) moments along the way - in a television journey acclaimed as one of HBO's finest offerings. In a landscape dominated by male names - which represents troubling commentary on HBO in general - her take on the Vice President is one of the best examples of character development witnessed on HBO.

One cannot help but direct praise towards the masterful manner in which Louis-Dreyfus seamlessly juggles the comedic elements of Meyer's character, with the more serious behind-the-scenes aspects of her life. Veep stands as one of HBO's more accomplished outings, helmed by a truly compelling performance from the actress that is easily her best to date.
