10 Best Heartwarming Lessons South Park Ever Taught Us
6. Break-Ups Are Not The End
In the earlier days of the South Park, the closest audiences got to see the boys in relationships was Stan vomiting all over Wendy, and later we've watched disturbing nuances like Cartman's toxic relationship with Heidi.
In the season seven episode "Raisins", aptly titled that because of a child-version of the chain restaurant Hooters (gross!), Butters falls for one of the servers, Lexus, and forges a worrying one-sided relationship with her that borders on obsessive stalking. When Lexus bluntly tells Butters she will never be his girlfriend, Butters falls into a depressive spiral, mimicking Stan's own break-up with Wendy.
When Butters is offered a place to join the bleak Goth kids, Butters declines and explains that he's glad he is sad because it means he felt something good. This revelation snaps Stan out of his Goth phase, and he rejoins his old friends with a new lease on life.
The ending of a first relationship is tough for anyone, and if it happens at a young age, it can seem like the world has ended. But Butters' philosophy on the matter reminds us that it is hard to heal from a broken heart, but in time we will be mended.
