10 Best Monsters Of The Week In Buffy The Vampire Slayer

9. Sweet

Buffy Gnarl
Mutant Enemy

Although Sweet is mostly in place to act as a plot device for the musical episode "Once More, with Feeling", Hinton Battle's fun and theatrical performance elevates him from one note villain to genuinely entertaining and frightening.

With his spell cast to make the residents of Sunndydale burst out into song and reveal their deepest secrets and darkest fears, Sweet is set up as the kind of bad guy who stirs the pot and sits back to let everything play out. But as the episode deepens and he comes to learn that the Slayer is in town, he turns his attention to destroying Buffy and taking Dawn as his "queen".

The way he dances and sings is wonderfully performed, making him at once likeable and oddly scary. With his role in an episode as strong and as shocking as this one, it's a testament to Battle and some great make-up that he isn't as generic and forgettable as some of Buffy's other adversaries.
