10 Best Musical Numbers In How I Met Your Mother
9. Super Date
Sang by Ted in the episode ‘Of Course’, this gorgeous song is short but sweet, encapsulating the joy of being, as both Barney and Ted say, gooey and romantic. As well as being a soft song, without the romantic point behind it being too laboured, it marks one of the moments when Ted’s hopeless romanticism rubs off on Barney.
Barney has been a man with very deeply hidden feelings over the entire show, with only a few moments of his loving nature coming out, and this marks one of them as he listens in awe as Ted describes the ideal date. The song comes to a close with both of the men swooning, before instantly counteracting it by going to a strip-club to regain their manliness.
This song has the added sweetness of leading Barney to do a truly selfless act for a woman he still clearly loves and cares about, making it one of the things which humanised Barney in the show. There’s not an awful lot to say about this song, but it is one of the only times where we hear Josh Radnor singing and he’s surprisingly good.
