10 Best One-Off Characters On Peep Show
5. Jackie
Series 5 Episode 5: Jeremy's Mummy
Not all the best characters in Peep Show have to be foul-mouthed or depraved. Some of them can be pleasant and well-intentioned. Like Big Suze.
Enter Jackie Usborne - Jeremy's mother. While the episode in question doesn't take up too much time establishing her and Jez' relationship, the brief snippets we get fill in so many blanks and give fans of Peep Show a broad understanding of how the aspiring musician became such a Manchild.
While Jackie takes something of a back seat when Martin and his (very) worrisome daughter Natalie arrive on the scene, it's her presence that becomes a linchpin for the entire episode. Jackie's interactions with Jez are remarkable as they consistently reduce Jez to someone twenty years younger. Vacillating between a spoilt teenager, and a toddler on the brink of a tantrum, Jeremy becomes a different person in the presence of his mum and it's Jackie's responses to his behaviour that makes her memorable.
Of course, this episode does also include a very infamous scene that I won't go into, but it shouldn't take the spotlight away from a character who impacted Jeremy almost as much as a certain someone for Mark later in this list.
