10 Best Phineas And Ferb Episodes

9. Finding Mary McGuffin

Phineas Ferb Act Your Age
Disney

There are a lot of seriously great things about this episode — the funny one-liners, the parody of black and white detective films, the callbacks to previous episodes — but the thing that really elevates this episode is the layer of emotion it adds to the relationship between Dr. Doofenshmirtz and his daughter Vanessa. Who doesn't get emotional when Dr. Doofenshmirtz talks about how hard he worked to find Vanessa her dream doll? Who doesn't get teary-eyed when Vanessa sings her song Not So Bad a Dad After All?

Episodes like this are the reason why Dr. Doofenshmirtz is one of the most beloved characters in the series — despite his occupation as a supervillain, the series often shows the evil scientist having a heart of gold especially towards his daughter. Fans of the show know how awful of a childhood Dr. Doofenshmirtz had, so the fact that he works hard to be a good father to Vanessa tugs at the heartstrings a lot.

Besides that, this episode is also really funny, especially when it comes to the scenes of Phineas and Ferb pretending to be old film style detectives. Phineas's dialogue is golden in this episode with great one-liners such as "For an average Joe, he gave us an above-average clue" and "We figured the best place to find a man in a lab coat is at the lab coat emporium." All in all, Finding Mary McGuffin is a funny, fun, and surprisingly emotional episode.
