9. The Master - Doctor Who

Our next entry begins with a simple question; what if Doctor Who turned evil? First appearing in the third season of the popular UK show, The Master serves as the arch-enemy of Doctor Who. The Master may not be as iconic as the Daleks, but he (or in one case, she) remains one of the gravest threats to the time lord's escapades.

The character is a renegade time-lord, one with intelligence to match the protagonist who often possesses other bodies to regenerate. Terror of the Autons in 1971 saw the character make an instant impression, allowing him to stand out from other lesser known antagonists.

As an equal to the good doctor in just about every way, The Master has been a consistent thorn in the protaganist's side. Nine different actors have portrayed the villain through the years with the most recent being Sacha Dhawan. The character's goal remains the same, to eliminate Doctor Who and conquer the universe.

Much of the time this foe is portrayed as a suave sociopath, someone who knows their power and has no qualms battling the hero. So long as our favourite time-lord travels through time and space, their nemesis will never be too far behind.
