10 Best Sherlock Characters
4. Irene Adler
Aside from Moriarty, Irene Adler is the most well-known of Conan Doyle’s villains. Though she only physically appeared in one episode of Sherlock, Lara Pulver’s version of this iconic villain made a lasting impression.
Upon meeting Adler, Sherlock was baffled because she appeared to be immune to his deductive reasoning. Whilst he managed to temporarily get around this issue, he ended up drugged and beaten by Adler before she made her escape.
It’s understandable, therefore, why Adler carried such confidence. Like many great characters, however, she was also vulnerable. In the closing stages of ‘A Scandal in Belgravia’, her dominating presence broke as Sherlock managed to get the better of her.
Without a convincing performance, these significant shifts between confidence and fear would not have been convincing. Thankfully, Pulver excelled at all the nuances of her character and was able to pull off one of the better incarnations of Sherlock’s iconic rival.
