10 Best Simpsons Characters Who Debuted After The Golden Age

7. Coach Lugash

The Simpsons Shauna Yes Guy
20th Century Fox

We first meet Coach Lugash in Season 12 at the YMCA when he’s going to anger management classes (‘Stupid anger management! I hate it so much! I spit on it!’). However, it’s in the Season 13 episode Little Girl In The Big Ten that we really see him come to life.

Here, he’s Lisa’s gymnastics coach, and it’s clear his anger management didn’t really work. However, what’s great about these one-note characters is that when they’re used sparingly, they’re always good for a laugh. See Frankie The Squealer and a few still to come on this list, as well as the likes of Blue Haired Lawyer and Old Jewish Man who debuted in earlier seasons.

They manage to write around Lugash really well too, with Mrs. Pommelhorst noting that he defected into East Germany. As with the two Angry Dad Bartoon episodes, we get great lines from Lugash’s rage as well, the highlight being when he steals the gymnasts’ cats until they can do the routine. Upon completion, one of the girls complains hers used to be a dog, but Lugash simply tells her ‘Is cat now!’.
