10 Best Simpsons Guest Stars (Who Played Themselves)

7. Mick Jagger

Simpsons Simon Cowell
Fox

Jagger appears in How I Spent My Strummer Vacation, an episode written as Season 14’s premiere but which actually aired as the second due to the Season 13 to 16 tradition of airing the Treehouse Of Horror first. With several huge guest stars though, it’s clear this episode was supposed to be the lead off hitter.

As well as Jagger, his bandmate Keith Richards stars, alongside Brian Setzer, Tom Petty, Lenny Kravitz and Elvis Costello at Rock & Roll Fantasy camp. Unlike some other guest star heavy episodes, each appearance feels natural and gets room to breathe.

Elvis Costello, as the most self deprecating star trying (and failing) to get anyone to play bass probably makes the most of his cameo. Tom Petty mixing his desire to make meaningful music with Homer’s request for generic rock winds up seeing him write about a drunk chick concerned about the shortage of chalk in public schools too.

It’s Jagger though, as the star who carries the plot, who does the most. He’s willing to laugh at himself throughout, his acting is far less wooden than other plot heavy stars and he’s pretty funny to boot.
