10 Best Star Trek Episodes That Revisited Other Episodes
3. Trials And Tribble-Ations And The Trouble With Tribbles
Trials And Tribble-Ations was a special moment in Trek. It was the first time that the Original Series aesthetic was fully embraced by the spin-off shows. Through a mixture of green screens, reused footage, and recreated sets and costumes, the Deep Space Nine cast was inserted perfectly into the story of The Trouble With Tribbles without messing the timeline up too much.
The Klingon from the original episode (surgically altered to look Human) used the Orb Of Time to transport himself and the crew of the Defiant to the year 2268. He hoped to assassinate Kirk to prevent his arrest at the end of The Trouble With Tribbles.
Trials And Tribble-Ations was spliced together with scenes from The Trouble With Tribbles. As the episode played out around them, the Defiant's crew worked hard to stay hidden and prevent the timeline from being altered, while occasionally cracking jokes about 23rd century life, and even referencing the Klingons' original design from the 60s (though we had to wait for Enterprise for this to be fully explained).
The episode even ended with a digitally constructed conversation between Sisko and 1960s William Shatner as Kirk. Truly the definition of fan-service, but we're not complaining, it was awesome.
