While Terra's character arc in season two may have been a touch underdeveloped (due to the show's financial constraints), its ultimate payoff in the two-part season finale, Aftershock, was definitely a phenomenal one. It's also the first on this list to really play to some of the aforementioned adult themes that this show tackles, and the pain felt by just about every character in this episode is palpable.

Physical and psychological abuse are integral to Slade and Terra's "mentor-apprentice" relationship, so much so that this episode makes you utterly despise Slade and root for Terra to overcome him, even in spite of the fact that she spends most of the episode actively trying to kill the Titans, the group who initially took her in and once called her their friend.

However, that makes it that much more satisfying when Terra does finally turn on Slade and sends him to his (temporary) demise, with her line of "you can't control me anymore" being especially chilling. The ultimate finale of Terra having to give her own life (again, temporarily, but that's a discussion for another time) to save the city from the damage she herself caused makes this episode that much more moving.
