10 Best TV Characters Who You Never Actually Got To See
2. Maris Crane - Frasier
Fraiser is a show that produced some of the most likeable characters in all of sitcom history, and Niles Crane was chief among them. This loveable gentleman was kind-hearted, soft-spoken and charming, which makes you wonder why he'd ever marry a woman so vile sounding as Maris Crane.
Described throughout the show by Niles - mostly giving excuses as to why she wouldn't be making an appearance - this character sounded like an utter nightmare. Plenty of vivid descriptions of her cropped up. Some claimed she couldn't produce saliva, had webbed fingers, was so frail she couldn't even gain enough weight to be a ballerina and had so little pigmentation that she would sear if left in the sun for more than three minutes.
Of course, her presence (or lack thereof) was utterly side-splitting. The constant excuses and horrible depictions led to her feeling like some form of bogeyman. Thus, the thought of the sweet/innocent Niles going home to her every night was oddly horrifying.
You could imagine her in the worst ways possible, knowing you'd always be right as there was no way the creators could ever find an actor to match how she'd been described. Simply put, she was a comedy gold mine.
