10 Best TV Shows Of 2017 (So Far)

There's a chance that the genius of Noah Hawley knows no bounds. Not only did he manage to turn a Coens' cult-classic into its own brilliant TV anthology, but he then stepped up to deliver what is the best comic book TV series of the year so far.

The series is sort-of-but-not-really connected to Fox's X-Men cinematic universe, and for the most part you wouldn't even be aware that you're watching a Marvel TV show, such is the unique sensibility Hawley brings to the FX drama.

Legion features some of the year's best performances, including Dan Stevens' turn as the tortured David Haller, Rachel Keller's incredibly likeable breakout performance as Syd, and Aubrey Plaza stealing the show with her twisted part as Lenny.

It features some gorgeous, psychedelic visuals against an unidentifiable period setting (it's a mix of 60s and 70s, but with some modern trappings too), which lends itself to the show's blurring the lines between what's real and what's not. It does feature some superpowered moments, but for the most part it's more concerned serving as a deep dive into mental health and the nature of reality, with some wider mystery trappings that help keep you gripped moving forward.

NCTJ-qualified journalist. Most definitely not a racing driver. Drink too much tea; eat too much peanut butter; watch too much TV. Sadly only the latter paying off so far. A mix of wise-old man in a young man's body with a child-like wonder about him and a great otherworldly sensibility.
