8. The Doctor Is Sin
June 8, 2008
Your powers are useless on me, you silly billy. Thanks for showing me around, Dr. Venture, and for the Fruitopia. Cant remember the last time I had one of those. In the first episode of season three, we didnt see any of Doc and the boys. After the events of Cremation Creek, Rusty was pretty much the same. Pathetic. Living in the shadow of his legendary father and his tiny brother. Like Mary Poppins, Dr. Henry Killinger flies into the Venture household and sets about creating a new Rusty Venture, with unexpected results. Great sight gags start the episode as Doc attempts to prove to General Manhowers that Venture Industries is still a profitable company. With the first episode of the third season, the show transitioned to HD with a 16x9 aspect ratio. The animation in this episode makes great use of that. For the first time, we see cock and balls. Profanity and nudity is censored for broadcast, but not in the DVD/Blu-Ray release. The pacing and structure are particularly tight here, especially in the finale, as Brock, Dr. Orpheus and the Alchemist race to prevent Doctor Venture from signing his life away. The Doctor Is Sin fits in well with the standard model of season three: mostly standalone episodes focusing on single characters. By the end of it, we see Rusty Venture in a whole new light. Also Jonas Ventures schlong.
