10 Biggest (And Best) Differences In Game Of Thrones Season 4 From The Books

3. Brienne Of Tarth vs. The Hound! Fight!

We got some pretty terrific fights this season, some directly from the books done up in spectacular fashion (The Red Viper vs. The Mountain), some conjured up from the writer€™s minds (The Bastard vs. The Legend of Gin Alley). But getting to watch Arya, the Hound, and Brienne come together in something of a fan-fiction-esque standoff was something that no reader of the book could possibly have expected. The feistiest females of the whole series observing each other from a safe distance; two high-born girls who only wanted to have a go at swordplay with the rest of the boys; it€™s all pretty perfect until the Hound walks in from his bathroom break and Arya essentially tells Brienne she can go $%#! herself bloody with a stick.
The melee that ensues is unlike any before it in the series. Their battle is one of desperation, imbued with a raw physicality that makes it perhaps the most brutal fight €“ although certainly not the most brutal death €“ of the series. The beauty of their intensity lies in the fact that neither combatant is formally a knight, neither seeks any glory or the respect of their peers, but both are willing to die to protect Arya (which, as it turns out, Arya doesn€™t really give a hoot about). The two are more alike in character than they realize. What€™s more, the two are a perfectly even match in terms of both skill and strength; when have we actually seen a fair fight in Game of Thrones?

Spencer is an avid lover of storytelling and cinema. This likely began in a simpler time when watching Indiana Jones kick the snot out of Nazis and pretending to be a velociraptor were standard fare for the day. He’s absurdly opinionated and somewhat stubborn, qualities only mildly offset by his awareness of his own insignificance. Spencer is nearly always restless, but he'll settle for food, friends, and a good pint anytime.
