10 Biggest Unanswered Star Trek Mysteries

6. V'ger

For a while, it was taken as read that the origins of the mysterious V'Ger entity related directly to The Borg. When Star Trek: The Motion Picture recounted the tale of the lost Voyager probe as having traveled through a black hole to discover a race of machine people, there were numerous hints that this was, in fact, an early form of the collective.

However, that's since been disproved (mostly because the Borg aren't, technically, a race of machine people) which leaves a crucial part of its story still untold. Who was this mysterious and advanced race that Voyager managed to find, and how did their reprogramming lead to it learning "all that is learnable".

If there is a species of entirely artificial lifeforms somewhere int he galaxy, it follows that Starfleet would move heaven and earth to locate them. This, coupled with the speculated birth of a new lifeform when V'Ger merges with Decker, means that entire seasons of television could have been dedicated to exploring the consequences of the movie, rather than simply forgetting about it.
