10 Brilliant Short-Running TV Shows That Proved Less Is More

6. The Newsroom

There was this little TV show about the White House that ran from 1999 to 2006 and won two Golden Globes. There was also this tiny movie at 2010 about Facebook, which won three Oscars. You might know one of them, or both, and might know their common denominator. He was also in charge of a little movie starring Tom Cruise and Jack Nicholson. Aaron Sorkin is a household name, so when he releases a TV show, everybody pays attention. The Newsroom is a political drama that premiered on HBO on 2012. It chronicles the behind-the-scenes events at the fictional Atlantis Cable News (ACN) channel. Anchorman Will McAvoy gets a new executive producer in the form of his old love flame, MacKenzie McHale. Together with his staff, they set out to put on a news show "in the face of corporate and commercial obstacles and their own personal entanglements". While the show did receive mixed reviews, it€™s hard to stay indifferent to it. With a score of 8.7 on IMDB (isn€™t that all that matters?) and a massive all-star team which includes Jeff Daniels (Dumb & Dumber, Good Night, and Good Luck.), Emily Mortimer (Hugo, Shutter Island), Sam Waterston (Law & Order) and Olivia Munn (I Don't Know How She Does It ) you should really take the time and watch it€™s 9-episodes worth of two seasons. Sadly, the third season, which will premiere in fall 2014, will be its final.
