10 Buffy Moments That Hit You Hard
8. Angelus Kills Jenny Calendar
Jenny Calendar was a fairly popular character in the early seasons of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and the only love interest for Rupert Giles that the fans ever really approved of. Proving that opposites attract, the modern, technically adept Calendar, Sunnydale High's computer teacher, was the yin to the bookish Gile's yang. Frequently butting heads at first, they soon fell for one another - and things were going swell, especially when it came to light that Jenny was comfortable with the dark arts.
However, it soon became known that she was part of the gypsy clan that cursed Angelus with a soul, causing him to become Angel - and when Angel lost that soul, reverting back to the murderous Angelus, all hell broke loose. He planned and executed the death of Calendar perfectly, snapping her neck then leaving her body in a romantic setting to later be found by Giles, who was devastated, triggering an attempted suicide mission by Buffy's watcher.
His pain became our pain in Passion, which was a turning point for the series: the first recurring character to die, Calendar's death not only hit hard, but marked the moment that Buffy became a much more adult show.
