9. "You're the One That Sees Right?" Dirty Girls (Season 7, Episode 18)
Whilst Season Seven as a whole may produce more sighs than gasps from fans of the show, there's no denying that the introduction of Caleb was truly something special.
He may have arrived a little late in the game, but he very quickly racked up a body count that put some other villains to shame, and really managed to put the fear of God into Buffy by demonstrating his superhuman strength and cold methods of execution.
Though not simply content with offing a few potential slayers, Caleb went one step further by grabbing hold of Xander, proclaiming him to be "the one who sees" and then brutally gouging out one of his eyes.
We'd seen The Scooby Gang take some punishment before, but never had we seen one of them mutilated in such a cold and ruthless manner. Whilst Xander was able to escape with his life, he was left partially sighted for the remainder of the series and his eye patch served as a constant reminder of Buffy's rash decision making putting those she loved in harm's way.
Caleb did eventually get his comeuppance, but that one bloody act has permanently cemented him as one of the show's nastiest baddies.
