10 Buffy The Vampire Slayer Moments That Shocked Us All

5. Anya's Death - Chosen (Season 7, Episode 22)

Mutant Enemy

Given that Chosen was the final ever episode of the show, we were all expecting at least one beloved character to lose their life in a heroic fashion in the battle against The First and its army of Turok-Hans.

And naturally, we lost two beloved characters in the battle, but what we weren't expecting however was to see Anya horrifically bisected by a Bringer in a blink-or-you'll-miss-it moment that collectively pissed off the entire fandom.

Not one for the front lines of battle, Anya and Andrew hung back in the hallways of Sunnydale high and were tasked with fending off any of the First's minions. Things were going well at first as Anya proved herself once again to be a capable fighter when required, easily making up for Andrew's lack of both courage and actual skill in battle.

But one sneaky Bringer soon put a stop to that when he snuck up behind her and ripped through her torso with its blade, killing her instantly.

Admittedly, she did die a hero, but the lack of ceremony in her death scene, as well as the lack of grief from the rest of The Scooby Gang feels genuinely insulting to such an important character.
