10 Characters From Famous TV Shows Who Were Swept Under The Carpet
3. Max - Saved By The Bell
When Saved by the Bell premiered in 1989, there were actually two adult regulars on the show. Magician Ed Alonzo played Max, the proprietor of the restaurant where the gang often hung out when they weren't at school, aptly called The Max. It was thought that Max would be the antithesis to the other adult character, Bayside High principal Mr. Belding, kind of acting as a wise sage and mentor for the kids and providing advice when they needed it. This could have been a good idea with the right character, writers, and direction, but,as with many of the other ideas on this list, things didn't go as planned in the actual execution. In fact, Max ended up being one of the most useless characters on the show. Writers just didn't have anything for him to do. Most of his appearances during the first season were relegated to Max doing a few magic tricks for the kids and telling a few of the more lame jokes of the season. Max would make one appearance during the second season when The Max was threatened with closure, but he was afterwards quietly written out. The gang would continue to hang out at The Max for the next three seasons (and seven additional seasons on the spin-off, Saved by the Bell: The New Class), but Max would never be heard from again.
