When Captain Planet And The Planeteers(seriously, did anyone ever use the full name?) first aired in 1990, the world was concerned with such environmental threats as nuclear waste and ozone layer holes. The show's villains, like Duke Nukem and Sly Sludge, had distinctly 90s concerns (and cracking puns for names). In a modern Captain Planet, the Planeteers could do battle with frackers or companies trying to drill in the Arctic. The Big Bad would certainly be a manifestation of climate change, causing sea levels to rise and useless Ma-Ti (what sort of power is "Heart?") to overheat all the time. And getting back any of the original cast - which included Whoopi Goldberg and LeVar Burton - would make the show a surefire hit.
